Whether you’re planning a small theater production or a great prop for Halloween, a fog machine can be a great addition. Here are some tips for using a fog machine effectively for whatever the event may be:
Test it
If you’re using the fog machine for something that needs to be well-timed, like a scene in a play, do test runs before the production starts. Go wherever your play will be held and see how long it takes for the fog effect to happen. Fog machines take a while to warm up, so once you have it all timed you’ll be set.
Know your surroundings
Fog machines have the ability to set off smoke detectors. To avoid this problem, be sure that you keep plenty of ventilation so the fog has somewhere to go.
Make sure everyone is aware
If you are using a fog machine in some sort of production, you should tell the audience that a fog machine will be used at some point. Surprises are good but safety is better. It only takes one person to think that it’s real smoke to make a disaster of what you have planned for.
